The Legend of Acoran
About 8,000 years ago, Acoran was born, the legitimate son of the king and queen of Gáldar, belonging to Tamarán. The whole town waited impatiently for the arrival of the new prince. My mother, tired from the effort, left me in my father’s arms, those hairy and warm arms, my father would not stop looking at me, and he said: I love you, my son.
A few days after birth, my mother died of a very severe illness, my father decided to give her a funeral at Roque Nublo, a sacred place for us. Almost the entire Kingdom came to bid their farewell. When I was 7 years old, I realized that every time I went to class with my father, I saw that my companions were accompanied by their mothers. One night I decided to ask my father: Where is mom?. And he replied that she had gone to a better place, and that is why, every time a colleague asked me where my mother was, I answered them “in a better place.”
When I came of age, my father told me that I would have to find a woman to be my wife. I wasn’t very lucky, but one day, walking through the forest, I saw a tall, blond-haired girl... the daughter of a simple farmer. Enraptured by her beauty, I went to her, I asked her what her name was and she replied: Guacimara.
We had a secret relationship for years because a nobleman cannot marry a commoner. I have decided to tell my father about my secret relationship with Guacimara, of course, he does not agree with me. Angry with him, I locked myself in my room for four hours. Then I decided to go out to see Guacimara, and I saw that my father was lying on the ground, I called the town doctor and he told me that my father had died of a heart attack. 5 days later they proclaimed me king and the following month I married Guacimara.
During one night, I started to hear screams, I left my house and saw people coming with torches and weapons, I decided to run away with my wife. We ran towards Roque Nublo and unfortunately, reaching the summit, my wife slipped, but I managed to catch her. Guacimara!!, I yelled. I closed my eyes for a moment and when I opened them she was gone. I kept walking to the top crying for the loss of my beloved. I get on my knees looking at the sky, and I think that all this has been a punishment from the evil god Guayota, I begin to shout: Why me, why!
And when the sun begins to rise, I jump down the ravine. As I fall, my skin begins to glow, I close my eyes prepared for the impact… and when I open them… I am back at the top!
I hear someone calling me: “Acoran, Acoran….”. I turn around and see my parents, they tell me that I should not do it, because I will be the great God of Tamarán, that from now on it will be called Gran Canaria. Finally I realize that all this happened for my good, and now I am the GOD ACORAN.
