What is Actinic Keratosis?
An Actinic Keratosis (AK) is a small rough spot that occurs on the skin. That develops from chronic exposure to the sun. These small superficial spots are superficial skin cancers that have not invaded the deeper layers of the skin.

Actinic keratosis characteristically appears on skin damaged by the sun. Actinic keratosis is also known as solar keratosis.
The probability that an individual actinic keratosis progresses to an invasive squamous cell carcinoma is less than 1%. Which are patients with many of these (very frequent) lesions. That continues to expose the skin to ultraviolet light and is likely to develop invasive skin cancers.
Squamous cell skin cancers are locally destructive and have a small but real potential for metastasis (spread to other areas). The treatment of actinic keratosis at an early stage will help prevent invasive skin cancer.
When patients are diagnosed with this condition, they often say. “But I never go out in the sun!” The explanation for this is that there may be a long delay, even decades, for these keratoses to develop. Short periods of exposure to the sun usually do not produce actinic keratosis or transform it into skin cancers.
How can CBD help with Actinic Keratosis?
CBD oil contains cannabidiol (CBD) and other cannabinoids, vitamins, minerals, and many other components that have a variety of health benefits. When you apply CBD topically, it is absorbed by the skin. The skin contains cannabinoid receptors that make CBD a potential treatment for many conditions ranging from dry skin to skin cancer.

Since it applies CBD directly to the affected areas, it works where you need it most without absorbing it into the bloodstream. The British Journal of Pharmacology published a peer-reviewed study showing several cannabinoids, such as cannabigerol (CBG), cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabidivarin (CBV) that appear to “turn off” skin cells that grow out of control. Uncontrolled growth of this type is a factor in skin allergies and skin cancers.
What science says about CBD and Actinic Keratosis
A 2009 study explored the effects of cannabinoid receptor activation in living beings with skin cancer. Many early studies use isolated cells in a container as a test tube. Advancing to living animals such as mice can give us a better idea of how we can apply the results to humans. So the team behind this study examined receptors on healthy skin and tumors in mice and humans.
Cannabinoids reduced the growth and spread of cancer in all areas. They triggered cell death and reduced the growth rates in the cells to which they administered the cannabinoids. In addition, although they killed the cancerous tissue, the normal tissue was not damaged.
If more data shows that CBD can kill cancer without harming the rest of the body, we can make great progress in cancer treatment. Current therapies, such as chemotherapy, do not discriminate between tissues and also cause damage to healthy cells.
