Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease that causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in the lung and digestive tract.
This results in life-threatening lung infections and serious digestive problems.
Not only that, the disease can affect a man’s sweat glands and reproductive system. Cystic fibrosis is common in children and young adults, symptoms include fever, cough, wheezing, shortness of breath, loss of appetite and sinus pain.
Cystic fibrosis is associated with a disrupted endocannabinoid system (ECS), which causes an imbalance of fatty acids.
Studies have shown that with cannabis treatment, the body’s ECS will normalize, leading to improvements.
CBD oil containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) has been shown to be highly beneficial for those suffering from the disease. CBD and THC are compounds from the cannabis sativa plant that contain valuable properties. CBD has anti-inflammatory, antidiarrheal, and antibacterial properties. THC can relieve nausea and vomiting in addition to having bronchodilator and analgesic effects.
Traditional treatment includes higher doses of antibiotics to treat lung and sinus infections, inhaled medications to open the airways, DNAse enzyme replacement therapy to thin mucus, flu shots and PPV once a year, oxygen therapy, and in some cases a lung transplant may be an option.
CBD oil can alleviate dysfunctional lung systems, malnutrition, and fatty acid (lipid) imbalance. CBD has very few and mild side effects; surprisingly, the side effects could be beneficial for patients with cystic fibrosis.
Although there is no cure for the disease yet, CBD can help lessen the severity of symptoms.
